The Visual FoxPro OLE DB Provider (VfpOleDB.dll) exposes OLE DB interfaces that you can use to access Visual FoxPro databases and tables from other programming languages and applications. The Visual FoxPro OLE DB Provider is supported by OLE DB System Components as provided by MDAC 2.6 or later. Mar 1, 2014 - I downloaded both the MSM and MSI files from. VFP OLE DB provider is a little bit older than above mentioned hot fix. OTOH, FoxPro is a. The MSDN Visual FoxPro product download section will also soon include a download of the Visual FoxPro OLE DB Provider, same as the version included in Visual FoxPro 8.0 but separate free independent download for anyone to use. Microsoft has stated that there are no plans on releasing a 64-bit edition of the Visual FoxPro OLE Db provider. For what's worth, Microsoft has also stated that VFP 9 is the final version of Visual FoxPro and support will end in 2015. The Visual FoxPro OLE DB Provider is supported by OLE DB System Components as provided by MDAC 2.6 or later. The requirements to run the Visual FoxPro OLE DB Provider are the same as for Visual FoxPro 9.0.

Microsoft OLE DB Provider For Visual FoxPro 9.0
Feb 27, 2007Im quite interested to see if any one is using Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Visual FoxPro 9.0 in an SSIS package. Is it possible to use this for free table directory like you can with the ODBC driver. ????
thanks kindly
My basic proccess is as follows: The source foxpro database has hundreds of dbf files ---the SSIS procress is as follows
1: Copy only required dbf files and/or matching .fpt files over to local drive on SSIS box(we only need 10 files)
use MS Visual Foxpro ODBC driver (free table option) and set up a system DSN--dataflow tab---datareader source--and away you go
OPENROWSET Using Visual FoxPro Provider Error 'Could Not Fetch A Row'
Jun 20, 2006Hi,
I have 2 separate clients experiencing this problem,
Both systems are
1.Win 2000 Server with Small Business Server 2000 (SP4)
2.SQL Server 2000 (SP2 upgraded to SP4, SP4)
3.Exchange
4.IIS etc
We use SQL Server to connect to FoxPro 2.6 Tables.
We are using OPENROWSET as follows:
Select * from openrowset('VFPOLEDB.1','C:Client Data';;,'Select * from cm')
We are now getting this error:
Server: Msg 7330, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 Could not fetch a row from OLE DB provider 'vfpoleDB.1'. OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'vfpoleDB.1' IRowset::GetNextRows returned 0x80040155].
The statement worked up until around 20 days ago, which made us think that it may be windows updates/sps/hotfixes, but i have installed the above on a test machine and installed all windows updates and the test machine works AOK.
Has anybody seen this error?
Thanks in advance

Q
The Parameter Is Incorrect. (Microsoft OLE DB Provider For Visual FoxPro) After SP1
May 1, 2006Having installed SP1, my SSIS packages using the OLE-DB Provider for Visual Foxpro no longer work. Using the latest version obtained from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=E1A87D8F-2D58-491F-A0FA-95A3289C5FD4&displaylang=en
When attempting to create one SSIS from scratch, the message thrown is:
'The parameter is incorrect. (Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Visual FoxPro).'
The radio button option of 'Copy data from one or more tables or views' and then selecting the 'Next >' throw the error.
It has to be the SP1 causing the problem because nothing else changed on the Server and everything was working fine prior to this.
Microsoft, any feedback on this??
Foxpro .net Odbc Data Provider Misidentifying Strings As Unicode
Nov 23, 2006Since my foxpro OLE driver has been rendered useless by service pack 1 for sql server 2005 I am forced to use the .net data provider for odbc.
I am importing a number of tables.. each time I add the DataReader Source to the dataflow and connected it to the OLE DB Destination I get a load of the good old 'cannot convert between unicode and non-unicode string data types' errors...
So I'm having to do derived column transforms, for each and every column that it coughs up on.
Using expressions like (DT_STR,30,1252)receivedby to convert the 'recievedby' column to a DT_STR,
Some of these tables have 100 string columns.. so I'm getting a bit sick of the drudgery of adding all these derivations...
Is there any way to tell this provider to stop deciding that the strings in the foxpro tables are unicode?
Thanks

Provider: Named Pipes Provider, Error: 40 - Could Not Open A Connection To SQL Server
Feb 20, 2006Hi All,
I am new to dotnet. I tried connecting to the database MS SQL Server 2000. I gave the code like, the one below, in form load event,
SqlDataReader dr = null;
SqlConnection myConnection = new SqlConnection('Data Source=IP;Initial Catalog=name;User Id=uid;Password=pwd;');
myConnection.Open();
myConnection.Close();
But I could not connect. The error message highlights the line myConnection.Open() and displays the error

(provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
It tries connecting to SQL Server 2005. There is no SQL Server 2005 in that system. There is only SQL Server 2000.
I have the aspx code in my local system and the database in another machine.
Could Someone please help me out in solving this problem.
Thanks,

Provider: Named Pipes Provider, Error: 40 - Could Not Open A Connection To SQL Server
May 20, 2008
hi all
I realised this has been done to death, and so much information out there but I am still in a quandry.
I have had to rebuild my computer.
This is what I did
XP machine
using SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition
using Windows Authentication
NZ6(MSSQLSERVER)
straight default install all the way
unfortunately when ready to run reports from my instance(computer)
I received the error as in provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server
thought I had it all okayed but obviously something not right
so ended up unistalling then - did the following:
Load SQL Server from disc1 and start install
failed on alter Counter Registry key error
fixed this from KB article (known error that can happen)
restarted
Went to Windows Update
check IIS is installed - tick is on - IIS - admin tools - make sure asp2 is associated - yes ok
Then back to install sql server - there is no instance set up yet
Disk 2 and setup .exe
All ok on Reporting Services, Analysis etc.
But once again all seems fine but still getting the error:
connection is all fine in Management Studio - eg I can see tables etc
connection is all fine in Business Intelligence - eg I can preview my reports
I then can deploy up to - NZ6
open NZ6
eports
report is there fine - but just errors
some simple little tick that I have not done!!
I seem to have checked and rechecked everything and obviously doing another re-install does not seem a logical step from here.
I will continue to check but if someone jump in and advise please would be great.
cheers

Provider: Named Pipes Provider, Error: 40 - Could Not Open A Connection To SQL Server
Apr 3, 2007Hi,
Am getting the followning error:
{'An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When
connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under
the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named
Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)'}
from my application where 3 service references had been added
and hav added this segment in app.config file
<configSections>
<section name='dataConfiguration' type='Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Data.Configuration.DatabaseSettings, Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Data, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' />
</configSections>

<connectionStrings>
<add name='Connection String' connectionString='Data Source=DPA1W075Binstancename;Initial Catalog=SoapBox;Integrated Security=SSPI;'

Solutions recommended for this were start running the SQL browser instance and enable Namespipes in Sqlserver configuration manager.Did both.. but nothing worked.
Still getting the same error..
Can somebody plz help me?

Microsoft Visual Foxpro Driver
Visual Basic, OLE DB Provider And DTS
Oct 25, 1999I want to use Visual Basic to create DTS connection. In the example below a connection is created using an ODBC string. Handling Provider-level Errors From .Net SqlClient Data Provider
Jun 26, 2007
Hi,
After reading this helpful blog entry:
http://blogs.msdn.com/sql_protocols/archive/2007/05/13/sql-network-interfaces-error-26-error-locating-server-instance-specified.aspx
I think this might be a good place to ask the following question.
I am writing the error handling code for my data access layer for a web application. I am using the Enterprise Library Data Access Application Block. Although this supports generic database connections, I realized that I need to handle errors specific to each database type. Microsoft SQL is the only database type I am using for now, so I am using a try...catch (SqlException e).
In testing my code, I intentionally changed the instance name in web.config to a name that does not exist. I get the very popular error 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified. This is returned as a SqlException, but the SqlError.Number property is set to -1.
Am I getting '-1' because the provider hasn't actually connected to SQL yet, so it doesn't have an actual SQL error number?
Can I assume that (SqlError.Number -1) is always a fatal, provider-level connection exception?
Will the provider ever use another SqlError.Number of its own? Or do all numbers besides -1 come from the SQL sysmessages table?.
Is there a comprehensive list of what exceptions might be raised by the SqlClient provider, including #26?
The reason for all the questions is that in a web application, I want to prevent the end-user from seeing the 'real' exception if it has to do with configuration errors. However, maybe there are other errors that the user should see and handle? It's hard to know without a full list of SqlClient provider errors, along with the SqlError.Number that each error maps to.
Thanks and regards,
Mark
Custom Log Provider Type Not Recognized As A Valid Log Provider
Mar 13, 2006I am new to SSIS but I am learning fast. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I have written a custom log provider derived from LogProviderBase. I want to programmtically add the custom log provider to my package, but when I try this:
myPackage.LogProviders.Add('ACustomLogProvider');
I get the following exception:
'The log provider type 'ACustomLogProvider' specified for log provider '{..GUID..}' is not recognized as a valid log provider type. This error occurs when an attempt is made to create a log provider for unknown log provider type. Verify the spelling in the log provider type name'.
I have followed the instructions in BOL and as suggested in this forum, adding the DtsLogProvider attribute:
[DtsLogProvider(DisplayName='ACustomLogProvider', LogProviderType='ACustomLogProvider', Description='a description')]
Another way I tried is that I added a GUID attribute to my custom log provider class and then tried this:
Type aType = typeof(ACustomLogProvider);
Guid aGUID = (Guid)aType.GUID;
myPackage.LogProviders.Add('{'+ aGUID.ToString() +'}');
This also gives me the same exception 'The log provider type '{..the actual GUID for ACustomLogProvider..}' specified for log provider '{..a different GUID..}' is not recognized as a valid log provider type....
My questions are: Is it possible to add a custom log provider programmtically or must it be done through the SSIS Designer?
Must I deploy my custom log provider class for it to work programmatically? (I had perhaps wrongly assumed I would not have to deploy if I don't want it to show up in the SSIS Designer).
I would prefer to use a custom log provider instead of just logging within the SSIS event handlers because I can override the OnPostExecute, etc. but I cannot (can I?) override the specific event handlers like PackageStart, PackageEnd, etc because they are not exposed through DTSEvents.
Any help I would be very grateful for. Thanks.
Provider String For LinkedSrvr OLE DB Provider For ODBC (to Oracle RDB)
Oct 10, 2007
I have an ODBC connection setup for Oralce RDB. This works fine in say MSAccess. Now I would like to add a SQL Server Linked Server to this ODBC driver (it is for RDB not regular Oracle), but I am not able to get this to work. What is the Provider String and Location / Catalog for using this type of ODBC? I setup DSN as 'name', Provider String as 'UID=user;PWD=pass;' and it seems it tries to connect but gives an error. '%SQL-F-SCHNOTDEF, Schema USER is not defined'
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Provider: TCP Provider, Error: 0 - No Connection Could Be Made (Need Help)
May 14, 2008
I try to connect to a SQL Server 2005 Express Edition via IP address. But anytime the application tries to connect to the database here is th error message I receive:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.)
There is the connection String code:
'Data Source=192.168.1.109,1433;Network Library=DBMSSOCN;' & _
'Initial Catalog=myDataBase;' & _
'UserID=Username; Password=Password;'
Already checked
I have enabled the TCP/IP under SQL Server,
Under SQL Server Configuration Area, I have chosen the option Local and remote connection: TCP/IP only
I have verified that my firewall allows SQL remote and a Local Connection.
Now I don't know where to look or what I have to fix to continue. I will really appreciate if somebody can help me.
Thank you in advance.

A Transport-level Error Has Occurred When Receiving Results From The Server. (provider: TCP Provider, Error: 0 - The Handle Is I
Mar 8, 2007Hi,
Basically the error that I am getting is in our test automation when running as non-admin on the box (regular user). We use .Net C# SQLConnection class to connect to SQL express 2005 impersonating with admin credentials. After getting the connection we try to execute a select command and it some time fails with following error:
A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The handle is invalid.) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlInternalConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.ThrowExceptionAndWarning(TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParserStateObject.ReadSniError(TdsParserStateObject stateObj, UInt32 error) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParserStateObject.ReadSni(DbAsyncResult asyncResult, TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParserStateObject.ReadPacket(Int32 bytesExpected) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParserStateObject.ReadBuffer() at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParserStateObject.ReadByte() at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.Run(RunBehavior runBehavior, SqlCommand cmdHandler, SqlDataReader dataStream, BulkCopySimpleResultSet bulkCopyHandler, TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataReader.ConsumeMetaData() at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataReader.get_MetaData() at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.FinishExecuteReader(SqlDataReader ds, RunBehavior runBehavior, String resetOptionsString) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteReaderTds(CommandBehavior cmdBehavior, RunBehavior runBehavior, Boolean returnStream, Boolean async) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteReader(CommandBehavior cmdBehavior, RunBehavior runBehavior, Boolean returnStream, String method, DbAsyncResult result) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteReader(CommandBehavior cmdBehavior, RunBehavior runBehavior, Boolean returnStream, String method) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior behavior, String method) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteReader()
This happen only in the non-admin scenario mentioned above. Any idea what is triggering this?
Thanks in advance for all replies.
I just upgraded from windows 7 64 to Windows 10 64. Now I am having problems with the Visual FoxPro driver. I am using the 32-bit ODBC manager (C:WindowsSysWOW64odbcad32.exe). When I try to add or edit a Visual fox pro source I get the following error:
I checked for C:Windowssystem32vfpodbc.dll and it does exist. Why am I getting this error and how do I correct it?

To check :
- Verify the registry at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREODBCODBCINST.INI
, subkey of yourdriver, if the listed files do exist.
For a 32-bit program the folderC:WindowsSystem32
is inaccessible and is automatically substituted toC:WindowsSysWOW64
.So a path to System32 should be replaced with SysWOW64. - You should have installed the FoxPro 9.0 Service Pack 2.0and the Hotfixes (actually only the third one in the list)
- You may need to download and install the MSXML 4.0 Core package
The problem could also be an incompatibility with Internet Explorer 11 or Spartan.
Have you been using IE11 when you were still on Windows 7?
If no solution is found, there is always the option of downgrading back to Windows 7.
Visual Foxpro 10.0 Free Download
In case everything else fails, like it just happened to me today, try installing VFP 9 Service Pack 2 Runtime, available at http://www.foxpert.com/download/runtime.html and https://github.com/VFPX/VFPRuntimeInstallers
The reasoning is that this installer includes both VFPOLEB and VFPODBC drivers, and it successfully installed on a Windows 7 machine where all the other standalone installers failed.
