The balance is evenly handed so that purists can ignore the boosts until they really need them, while new players get a hand while they’re learning to tighten their skills, and adventurous gamers can work the courses over to see how long they can keep a skid going with different drift types on various cars and then with Nitros active on tougher turns. It’s a small, good thing, and with pure Ridge Racer gameplay seeming to have reached its apex with RRV, this new system breaks the series open for new directions next time.

Ridge Racer 2, released in Japan as Ridge Racers 2 (リッジレーサーズ2 Rijji Rēsāzu Tsu), is an arcade-style racing game developed by Namco Bandai Games for the PlayStation Portable hand-held console, marking the 14th release in the Ridge Racer series and also the sequel to the PSP launch title Ridge Racer.
